Licensed Professional

Tourism is one of Italyís leading industries. To preserve this important wealth of the country we need not only to preserve our monuments, archaeological sites and museums, but we need to protect consumers ( = tourists ) guaranteeing a high level of certified professional operators.

Italian legislation, both at national and local levels, settles all the requirements for these operators, and for this reason all Directors of Travel Agencies and Hotels, Tour Operators and Events Organizers, Tour Escorts, Tourist Guide, and even Ski Teachers and Horse Trainers are required to posses an official license released by national or local authorities after a complex test.

Introducing Myself

I was born here in Rome, like my father and my ancestors for at least five generations. I am a Licensed Professional Tourist Guide for Rome and its Province since 2000. My working experience is really diversified: I've worked for the Army as a Lieutenant , in Education as fine art teacher , on the NYSE as a stock broker, in Advertising, Financial Control, as an official Car Dealer, before turning my interest to tourism. In 1969 I went to the university of Rome to become an Art Historian, and 30 years later, in 1997, to the Pontifical University of the Lateran to get a B.A. in History of Religions and Arts. In 1998 I got the State License as a professional Tour Leader (specialized for Italy and Europe). I am a Tour Guide since the year 2000 and I think that Rome is the most exciting city in the world not only for a Tour Guide but also for every tourist with just a little interest in history or archaeology, or arts, because only "The Eternal City" may boasts more than 2,800 years of history. And what history! Capital of the great Roman Empire, capital of the Christianity and Papacy, capital of Italy. As a native and as a professional guide, I am proud and happy to show - every day - the beauties and to unveil the secrets of the most beautiful, rich in works-of-art, intriguing city in the world. I work with Diplomatic Corps, Incentive Tours, Cruise Lines, Sport Teams, Pilgrimage Groups, Schools, although I normally prefer individual clients, like couples or families, with whom a more personal, customized, friendly relationship may be established.

My Family Arms

The helmet is indicative the lower rank in the nobility: the knighthood. Red and yellow camps refer to an ancient presence of my family in the Eternal city: they are the colors of Rome. The motto "ultra novos limes" (meaning "beyond the new limits/borders" ) evokes a restless research: even after the discovery of a new area and new limits, never rest, go beyond. The wheel of the rudder combined with the sextant indicates a conscious and responsible route in the research driven by science and rationality. All this is however symbolic and refers rather to a cultural exploration then to a geographical one, aimed at widening cultural borders in science but mainly in humanities.

Licensed Tour Guides

The web is full of sites where enchanting guided tours in the most beautiful city of art like Venice, Florence and Rome are offered by English-mother-tongue who qualify themselves as long time residents in the same cities, claiming as well their expertise in history, art, archaeology.

But they cannot claim having any license, because they do not have it! They did not study years to become a Licensed Tourist Guide, they did not pass the severe tests set by local authorities, they are not legally certified, they did not prove their real knowledge to any authority, they are not registered in the official list, they do not pay any tax on their illegal works.

The difference is the license.

If you donít want to be cheated, if you do not want to feed this illegal market, if you do not want to listen to tales too much reminiscent of a cheap Hollywood story, if you do not want to receive false and misleading information,

 ask for the license.

Licensed Tour Guides do not need to look over their shoulders to see whether the police are coming, they are not afraid of any I.R.S. investigation, and they are proud to show their blue license when working with their tourist because they know how hard and long they have studied to earn it.

Licensed Tour Leaders

Tourism is one of Italyís leading industries. To preserve this important national wealth we need not only to preserve our monuments, archaeological sites and museums, landscapes, national parks, beaches, lakes and mountains , but we protect consumers ( = tourists = you ) too, guaranteeing a high level of certified professional operators.

Italian legislation settles all the requirements for these operators, and for this reason all directors of Travel Agencies and Hotels, as well as all Tour Escorts, Tourist Guide, and even Ski Teachers and Horse Trainers, are required to posses an official license released by either national or local authorities.

To become an Officially Certified and Licensed Tour Escort in Italy ( or Accompagnatore Turistico ) you need to study hard and long, you need to undergo a National Commetee formed out of Archaeologists, Tour Operators, Foreign Language Mother Tongue experts, Art Historians, Tourist Legislation Specialists, Hotel Managers, pass very complex written and oral examinations. Normally no more than 1 contestant out of 10 pass the severe examination and get the Official National License as ď Accompagnatore TuristicoĒ (=Tour Leader).

This license makes the difference!

The web is full of sites where enchanting guided tours in Italy to the most beautiful city of art like Venice, Florence and Rome and coutrysides like Tuscany or Capri are offered by English-mother-tongue Drivers who qualify themselves as long time residents in Italy, claiming as well their expertise in history, art, archaeology and tourism in general: they are not Officially Licensed Tour Leaders!

They cannot claim having any license,  they did not pass any severe test, they are not legally certified, they did not prove their real knowledge of this wonderful country to any authority, they are not registered in the official list, they do not pay any tax on their illegal works, and sometimes they are not even Italians!

If you donít want to be cheated, if you do not want to feed this illegal market, if you do not want to listen to tales too much reminiscent of a cheap Hollywood story, if you do not want to receive false and misleading information, if you donít want to fall in any touristís trap, ask for the license of a Professional Licensed Tour Leader like this one.

Accreditation to the Vatican

Since 2001 I am one of the Licensed Guides accredited to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chaple. We have a special pass to enter in the museums so that we do not need to buy an entrance ticket for ourselves. Even with this accreditation, however, we have access only to the sections of the museums open to the public ( i.e. not to the library, which admittance is reserved only to an elite of privileged scholars ).
